This book provides a folksong-based music curriculum for students in grades 3-6.
Eight folksongs are taught in detail and each lesson includes six sections that are
intended to "Draw Them In", "Get Them Singing", "Get Them Playing", "Broaden
Their Knowledge", and "Extend Their Experience". Each song is arranged for two
vocal lines, recorder, and pitched and unpitched percussion. Chords are
provided for guitar or ukulele with tabs included separately. In between each
lesson Mari Schay includes a "teacher to teacher" section in which she discusses
one particular aspect of the material, including singing, playing instruments,
listening to music and comparing styles, reading music notation, assessing
students, rehearsing, and performing. The enclosed CD contains
performance and accompaniment tracks for each arrangement in the book, as well
as printable scores, lyrics and worksheets. Book with CD, 88 pages.
