This book and CD set provides a multipart classical music listening curriculum for
the elementary classroom. Level 1 is intended for students in kindergarten through
first grade, and includes topics such as pitch, tempo, dynamics, instruments of the
orchestra, composer biographies and musical periods. The book contains
classroom lessons and activities, reproducible handouts, rhythm instrument scores
for playing along with the listening examples, movement and art activities, and
reproducible listening logs. Also included are 43 scripts for guided listening that
can either be used in a single classroom, or read over the school intercom as part
of a
school-wide listening program.
The accompanying CD contains recordings of the pieces featured in the book.
Level 1 includes Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saëns, and Peter and
the Wolf by Sergei Prokofiev, as well as works by Mozart, Grieg, Scheidt,
Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi, Handel, Rimsky-Korsakov, Chopin, Josquin des Prés, and
