This new 'ukulele method book uses the same positive reward
system that Barb Philipak developed in her popular publication
Recorder Karate. The contents of the book
are divided into nine "belt levels" which each feature two
songs arranged by degree of difficulty. Students earn their
colored "belts" by mastering the songs in each section before
moving on to learn new chords and chord progressions.
Ukulele Karate is filled with ideas to guarantee a
successful 'ukulele unit, as well as a classroom-tested method
for working with this system of rewards
and reinforcement. Also included at each level are warm-ups and
exercises appropriate to the new learning elements, as well as
special sections on tuning, details on strumming, reading and
understanding TAB, and playing and mastering chords. The book
also discusses the best approaches for testing and for
organizing and running the essential Dojo Groups and Class
Roles.The two Recorder Karate CDs contain full
performance and accompaniment tracks for each song. Some songs
are recorded at both slow and fast tempos, and most include a
one-verse "test" version of the tracks to aid in the student
assessment process. The Teacher's Handbook contains
copy-permissible
pages including 'ukulele chord charts and an "Award of
