This is a curriculum guide based on Kodály principles which includes an introduction to the Kodály philosophy of music education. Part 1 presents chapters on lesson planning including "Helping Children to Sing Tunefully", "How to Teach Songs", "How to Teach a Game", and "What is Preparation, Presentation and Practice". Part 2 contains specific methodology chapters for each of the grade levels K-6. Part 3 includes song lists (with song notated or source listed) and a discussion of Yearly Plans. While in Part 4 we find the Glossary of Terms, Model Lesson Plans, Folk Song Index, Art Music Index, Rhymes and Songs, and Art Music Songs. A bibliography and index are found at the end.
The 2nd edition of "An American Methodology" has more folk songs, art songs, and model lesson plans. There
are "prepare, present, and practice" model lesson plans for each grade K-6. There
is also a new section in the second grade curriculum on teaching compound
rhythms and six-eight meter in second or third grade. All suggested songs have
been carefully researched for this age group. In the section on How to Teach A
Song, in addition to How To Teach a Song by Rote we have included How To Teach
a Song by Reading (by rhythm only or by stick and staff notations). Spiral bound book, 440
