This collection of developmentally sequenced curricular
materials is the third
volume in a series developed by Roger Sams and BethAnn
Hepburn based
on
elements from the Orff Schulwerk, Kodály and Dalcroze
Eurhythmics
methodologies. Each of the 39 lessons found in the book
contains four to eight
"pathways" that focus on different learning activities related
to a particular
concept
or song, such as literacy, ensemble skills, movement,
improvisation and
composition. This structure allows teachers to individualize
each lesson to best
serve the needs of their classroom. Book 3 covers quarter
notes, quarter rests,
two
eighth notes, half notes, half rests, dotted half notes, whole
notes, whole rests,
sixteenth notes, dotted quarter eighth rhythms and variations,
eighth rests, and
the
anacrusis.
Printable manipulatives for composition activities are
available as a free digital download with the purchase of the
book.
The companion CD-ROM disk (sold separately)
contains
electronic visuals in three
formats (Microsoft® PowerPoint®, SMART Notebook™, and
Promethean
ActivInspire)
that
complement the lessons in the book. Teachers who do not have
an interactive
whiteboard in their classroom can project the lessons and
manipulate the
content
from their computer.
