Multicultural Songs, Games and Dances is a collection of 24 multicultural
folksongs from 15 countries in 15 languages. The collection initially began as a
challenge for OAKE members to seek out the diversity of musical expressions
within their school communities. The two selections in Hungarian were originally
collected by Zoltán Kodály and submitted by Jean Sinor, and the rest of the songs
are in a variety of languages
including Spanish, Russian, Mandan, Hebrew, Shona, Armenian, Wolof, French,
Japanese, Nanticoke, Norwegian, Tagalog, English and German. All of the songs
come with translations, and are underscored with both native characters and IPA
pronunciations to make it easier for teachers and/or native speakers to help
students with pronunciation. Some songs also include written game instructions,
dance instructions, activity suggestions, or a dramatic story.Contributors
include: Susan Taylor-Howell, Karen Arlen, Kathy Sorenson, Bryan Burton, Virginia
Womack, Marilyn Sousa, Ruth Boshkoff, Donna McAleer, Miriam Factora, Ivy Rawlins
Ward, and Lamar Robertson.Book, 30 pages.
